Saving the Launch: How to Handle Last-Minute Product Requirements

Imagine this: You're on the cusp of a critical product launch, one that promises to unlock a lucrative new revenue stream in an untouched market. Then, the unthinkable happens – a vital requirement has been missed.  Your strategic launch is now hanging by a thread...

In NPC's experience this scenario often occurs in programme-led launches focused on budget and milestone tracking.  So, how do you go about resolving this?  Instead of internal conflict, NPC recommend tackling the problem by stripping it to its core.

Start by clarifying the exact requirement and its nature (e.g. regulatory). The key is to identify the bare minimum needed to satisfy it, whether it's a new feature, process, or a specialist team for verification.

Next, assess existing assets that could help. Quickly build the simplest, "dirtiest" solution to test its effectiveness. Rapidly challenge this skeleton with scenarios to uncover high-probability edge cases. You can then decide if these need resolving pre-launch or can be handled with a fast follow-up. This focused approach allows you to implement the smallest, simplest version necessary to proceed with the launch.

This insight comes from Darryn and Lucille's extensive product launch experience. Our product and problem-solving mindset turned near-catastrophes into successes, strengthening ties between product teams and strategic leaders. We help teams navigate challenging situations, ensuring maximum value delivery even under pressure.
